Laura Carlevero is a translator for Global Voices in Italian. Her translation of the article “The children who learn war before they learn the world” from English to Italian has been nominated for Lingua's Translated Story Showcase.

On a recurring basis, Lingua Translation Managers select one or two outstanding translations to feature in the showcase. Marisa Petricca, the Lingua Translation Manager for Italian at Global Voices, noted that the essay was a powerful one and therefore important to have available in Italian:

This piece is still in my mind after months; that's why I want to highlight it now. A bitter truth about war and children has been written:

“Because when a child begins to fear the sky, something fundamental has already been lost. The sky was never meant to be a source of anxiety. It was meant for clouds that change shape, for birds that cross without borders, for stars that arrive quietly at night. Not for missiles. Not for drones.”
