A piece about a new Netflix series and Argentina's disappeared, translated from Spanish to Esperanto by Toño del Barrio

Toño del Barrio is a translator for Global Voices in Esperanto. His translation of the story “Cómo la serie ‘El Eternauta’ reavivó las búsquedas por desaparecidos en Argentina” from Spanish to Esperanto has been nominated for the Lingua Translation Spotlight.

Once a quarter, Lingua Translation Managers select one or two outstanding translations that deserve a special round of applause. Herman Dekeŭnink, an Esperanto Translation Manager at Global Voices, highlighted how the chain of translation, from Spanish as the source language to non-English languages as the targets, decentered the dominance of English:

The article in Global Voices about the Argentine comic “El Eternauta,” recently adapted for use in a Netflix series, was originally written in Spanish and translated in only 2 other languages (Português and Esperanto), not even in English. That is the first reason why I want to nominate this article. The second reason is that the author of the comics series was a speaker of Esperanto himself.

Kudos, Toño! Take a look at his translation on the Global Voices in Esperanto website:
