Sara Scibetta is a translator for Global Voices in Italian. Her translation of the story “Cognitive strength and community: Psychological coping mechanisms of displaced Palestinians” from English to Italian has been nominated for the Lingua Translation Spotlight.
Once a quarter, Lingua Translation Managers select one or two outstanding translations that deserve a special round of applause. Marisa Petricca, the Italian Lingua Translation Manager at Global Voices, commented:
This translation is very important because the real life experiences of mental health professionals based in Gaza aren't so well highlighted in the mainstream media. We have all sorts of data and statistics about deaths and destruction in Gaza, but maybe it is time to connect with the people living here, fighting every day to keep normal activities in their lives, like: education, community teams, embroidery, craft, music, volunteering, family activities etc. Their life is worth living, even in this war-torn country that is Palestine. Thanks, Sara, for translating this important message into Italian.
Impactful work, Sara! Take a look at her translation on the Global Voices in Italian website:
